California Missions: Mission San Juan Bautista • Carmel Mission • Jardines de San Juan

We depart for the beautiful Monterey and Carmel area. Our first stop is Old Mission San Juan Bautista for a self-guided tour. Founded in 1797 and named after St. John the Baptist, it was the largest of the mission churches. Original artifacts include altar statues, wall decorations, a baptismal font, and an 1816 altar screen. Lunch today is a truly wonderful experience at Jardines de San Juan. This stylish eatery with its quaint feel, fine artwork, vibrant décor, and lush garden patio serves tasty refined Mexican cuisine. Next up is Carmel Mission, one of California’s most important heritage sites. A gathering place for countless faithful since 1771, the mission features a fine collection of Spanish Colonial Liturgical art and artifacts displayed throughout the church. Our last stop is San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey, the oldest continuously functioning church in California.
